In this video i attempt to open a patio door that has got stuck locked.

Push open the door when you feel the resistance from the lock start to give. If you can t get that to work for you start checking windows. Another way to unlock a door without a key is to simply work on making the door and its accompanying door lock somewhat irrelevant. Spray the door key with a graphite based lubricant.

This will loosen the tension on the deadbolt allowing it to retract and the door to open. When this happens the storm door deadbolt and latch side rail are likely misaligned which can prevent the deadbolt from retracting. 9 times out of 10 one is unlocked and you didn t even know it. Flip the key and open the door.

Once the door is no longer connected to the frame you ll be able to slip it out of the opening and remove the lock from the interior side. If its the deadbolt style lock usually more expensive storm doors take a screwdriver or strong knife and pry gently away from the door. The inside latch contains our no lock out feature eliminating the worry of accidentally being locked out of your home. Give the handle i stiff pull and there you go.

Wright products most traditional keyed push button latch. You may have to wiggle the card and doorknob to get the right opening and it may take several tries. This latch can be used on most storm or screen doors with 1 3 4 in. The mechanics of the lock have broken leaving the top section of the door completely.

To unjam the deadbolt remove the installation screws on the latch rail from the outside. This can be done in multiple ways. Take the door off its hinges. All installation hardware is included.
